"Batman is a symbol that we don’t have to be afraid of criminals. It’s a symbol of hope." "...as a symbol, I can be incorruptible, everlasting"
Let's spread art like this so that in the wake of the horrible shooting in Auroa, CO's Dark Knight showing, we can look at Batman and see hope to overcome the fear of criminals like Holmes and live our lives.
And to grieve for and honor those who lost their lives (and their loved ones) from an act of violence.
The symbol of Batman means we should not cower in corners. And having the sanctity and suspension of belief of the theater violated from one disturbed person has left us shaken. Let us Rise.
Christopher Nolan's statement: "Speaking on behalf of the cast and crew of The Dark Knight Rises, I would like to express our profound sorrow at the senseless tragedy that has befallen the entire Aurora community.
I would not presume to know anything about the victims of the shooting but that they were there last night to watch a movie. I believe movies are one of the great American art forms and the shared experience of watching a story unfold on screen is an important and joyful pastime.
The movie theatre is my home, and the idea that someone would violate that innocent and hopeful place in such an unbearably savage way is devastating to me.
Nothing any of us can say could ever adequately express our feelings for the innocent victims of this appalling crime, but our thoughts are with them and their families."

*Note this is a photomanipulation of the image Warner Bros used for the CD cover of the Dark Knight Rises (with an added 'HOPE' and date on the bottom) . I do not own the rights to the bat-chalk image and do not intend to infringe any copyrights. It's art and meant to be a memorial to the victims in Aurora.*
Thoughts and prayer for the victims
